No Objection Certificates (NOC)

A No Objection Certificate (NOC) is a written statement that an employer, landlord, parent, society or bank has no objection to something you plan to do - travelling, studying, renting, selling or registering an address.

How to write no objection certificates (noc)

  1. Say who is giving the NOC and in what capacity (employer, owner, parent, society, bank).
  2. Name the person who needs it and describe exactly what you have no objection to, with dates or property details.
  3. Add the date and sign. Employers, banks and societies should use their letterhead and stamp.
  4. Attach supporting proof (ID, ownership or employment proof) if the office that receives the NOC asks for it.

When to use one

  • Visa or study leave from an employer
  • Address proof for a tenant from a landlord
  • Sale of a vehicle that is under a loan or from a co-owner
  • Society permission for renovation, subletting or sale of a flat

FAQ

What is an NOC?

A No Objection Certificate is a written statement from an employer, landlord, parent, society or bank that it has no objection to something you plan to do, such as studying abroad, renting a place, selling a vehicle or starting a business.

Who issues an NOC?

The person or body whose permission is relevant: your employer for a job-related matter, the owner or society for a property matter, a parent for a minor's activity, a lender for the sale of a financed vehicle.

Does an NOC expire?

Many offices accept an NOC only for 3 to 6 months from its date, so write the date clearly and, where useful, a validity date.
