Common questions

Canada: what size does "Passport photo" need to be?

Passport photo · 50x70 mm: 50 × 70 mm · 591 × 827 px · JPEG · 300 DPI. Passport photo · Online: 1200 × 1800 px · 200–5120 KB · JPEG. Check the official instructions - rules change.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Cropping, resizing and compression all happen in your browser. Your photo never reaches our servers.

Why does a portal reject a photo that looks fine?

Portals check hard limits: pixel size, file size in KB, format and sometimes DPI or background colour. A photo that looks right can still be a few KB over or a few pixels off. Choosing the right size here sets all of them at once.

What if the file is too big or too small?

The tool compresses the file to stay under the maximum and, where a minimum is required, pads it without changing the picture. If a photo cannot reach the limit at the required pixels, it tells you.
