How to bulk rename PDF files with an Excel list – step by step
Rename hundreds of PDFs in one go. Bulk Rename PDFs uses a simple Excel template - old name and new name - and returns a ZIP with every file correctly renamed.

Download the Excel template
Press Download the Excel template on the page and open it in Excel. Fill the Old Filename column with the current file names and the New Filename column with what you want.

Drop your PDFs and the Excel file
Drop all the PDFs and the filled Excel sheet together on the upload box (or a ZIP of PDFs plus the sheet).
Step 2: Drop your PDFs and the Excel file -
Check the list
You should see every PDF and the Excel file listed. Remove anything that does not belong.
Step 3: Check the list -
Press Run
Press the Run button; each PDF is matched with its new name.
Step 4: Press Run -
Download the renamed files
Press Download to get a ZIP of the renamed PDFs.

Quick tips
- Old names must match exactly, including .pdf at the end.
- Use PDF Filenames to Excel to list current names automatically.
- Avoid characters such as / \ : * ? in new names.
Common problems & fixes
- It says no rows were found
- Use the provided template and keep the headings Old Filename and New Filename.
- A file was not renamed
- Check for spelling or extra spaces in its Old Filename cell.
- Two files share one new name
- Give each file a unique new name.
